My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time in the beautiful coastal town of Mendocino (as seen in this post and this post). Since Mendocino is pretty far up north, my boyfriend suggested we should head to the redwoods for the day before we make our way back home. So we made a day out of it! We said our goodbyes at the beach in Mendocino and then we stopped by Point Cabrillo to check out the lighthouse before we set off for Humboldt Redwoods State Park.
I was very young the last time I was up here, so I recall. Coming back was like seeing the redwood trees for the first time. Humboldt Redwoods State Park is home to some of the world’s largest trees. It is definitely a sight to see if you are ever in California. The best part of the redwoods was my experience here. Little did I know our adventure to these majestic trees would change my life forever.
You see, my boyfriend (also the primary photographer for Beyond Basic) and I have been dating for almost 5 years now. We have been talking about taking our relationship to the next step for quite some time. We already are building a home together. He is the person who helps me get out of my shell and introduces me to new things. I’m an extremely shy person and without him, I would probably be a homebody for the rest of my days.
And he’s actually the primary reason I have Beyond Basic! He volunteered to help with the photography with absolutely no photography skills whatsoever (and I got to say for someone who’s never even picked up a DSLR, he’s pretty damn good). While I knew moving towards the next steps in our relationship were in the works, I wasn’t exactly sure when it was going to happen.
So when we were in the redwoods, my boyfriend got down on his knee and asked me to marry him.
And I’m extremely thrilled to announce I will be marrying my best friend and love of my life! Here’s to new adventures!
